About Us

No Straight Road

Astrodetic was founded by explorers. We've taken a lot of different roads and picked up some pretty eclectic skills along the way. But mainly, we see the promise and value in bringing together people with different domain knowledge in science, engineering, and the arts. We believe that those experiences and range of expertise synergistically combine to create new opportunies and breakthroughs.

The Mission

As an organization, we seek to expand human knowledge by exploring the previously unknown, to create innovative approaches to performing that exploration, and use these advances to improve our world and to inspire those around us.

Our Vision

We established Astrodetic in Cleveland, Ohio, because it is the geographic center of the Steel Belt and is ideally located at the nexus of primary land, water, air, and rail transport arteries. Combined with a low cost of living, a sustainable climate, underutilized light, heavy, and precision manufacturing, its proximity to major universities and colleges in Northeast Ohio and the Midwest, and the fact that it is home to the third of four original NASA centers, mean that the North Coast is a hidden gem of potential in aerospace research and technology. We imagine a future for Astrodetic in which it is a vibrant cultural and physical environment that provides inpiration, education, and opportunity to the region. We imagine a future which allows each of us to realize our goals while fulfiling our obligation to leverage our work for societal benefit.

Our Values

We recognize and value that our employees are often fiercely unique and independent. (We didn't get here without marching to a slightly different drum!) We expect that our employees respect each other's diverse personalities and perspectives, while maintaining honest dialogue and intellectual engagement. We believe that responsibility for others' welfare is commensurate with positions of authority and power. Our management layer should be as thin as possible and exist to enable the goals of the organization and its employees, not to get in their way.

Why a For-Profit Company?

We believe that capitalism is a tool, and that responsible capitalism can be used to improve the lives of our employees, our community, and world at large. As a for-profit company, we are able to take advantage of opportunites available for small businesses while growing sustainable operations around novel products and services. This business model provides security and resiliency for our staff researchers between grant awards. We are not soliciting for venture capital and we don't have a cash-and-dash exit strategy.
